Six Years by Harlan Coben

Harlan Coben and I go way back, figuratively speaking. I’ve been reading his books since I was a teenager and absolutely obsessed with suspenseful thriller writers like Iris Johansen, Harlan Coben and James Patterson (when he wrote by himself). Coben has always been a master at evoking hair-raising, heart-pumping, adrenaline-driven emotions through his books and they are always such great puzzles that are often very hard to sleuth out before the main character. So when Steph from The Fake Steph Dot Com insinuated that Six Years, Harlan Coben’s latest thriller, would be our next book club pick, I jumped at the opportunity to delve into his writing once more. Thoroughly fascinating and everything I’ve grown to love about Coben’s writing,… Read more »

Waiting on Wednesday Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It’s simple – spotlight an upcoming release (or two or three) that you’re excited about. I love meeting new books and anticipating them, so this meme is constant at The Daily Bookmark. Hello, bookish friends and happy Wednesday! What an unusual week this is. On Friday, Danny and I are headed to Blacksburg for his youngest brother’s college graduation. Should be a good time and I get to wear my new Hokie Heels that I Danny got me for my birthday. But getting ready for the trip? Figuring out what I’m going to wear to BOTH graduations (one for the university, one for his college)?… Read more »

Embrace by Jessica Shirvington

Brace yourselves, folks, Jessie has joined the dark side. Yep, this one little book has opened up a whole new world for me as a reader, which translates into a severe decrease in the padding of my bank account. As a graduate student, this is bad news, yet I can’t help but rejoice. What is this ‘whole new world’ I speak of? Audiobooks. Yes, dear readers, before I delved into Embrace by Jessica Shirvington, I was not one for audiobooks. But in an effort to do the impossible and partake in my two most favorite hobbies at the same time, it was necessary that I give this listen-to-the-book thing a try. And I loved it. Unfortunately, while I adored the audiobook experience, the book was… Read more »

Stacking the Shelves (6)

Stacking the Shelves is a book haul meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. How to participate is simple – highlight those books you got in the mail (or electronically) throughout the week. It’s an eye-opener for me as I’ve realized… I have a book-buying addiction! ; ) Hey all! Happy Saturday. I’m here to do my Stacking the Shelves. Once again, no vlog. Today, we’re getting the last of the stuff from the old house. Most of which is trash, but Danny has sentimental attachments to a lot of it. To each his own, I suppose. : ) In the meantime, I look a little.. rough, to say the least. And on a bit of a time crunch so no vlog today…. Read more »

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

Leviathan for me was completely unexpected and in so many different ways. I wasn’t expected to love it. I wasn’t expecting to dislike it (at certain points; I’ll explain). I wasn’t expecting to wanna go out and get the next books in the series as well as everything else by this author ever shortly after finishing. I wasn’t expecting to wish this alternate history were real and I lived in it, similar to that feeling we all got while reading Harry Potter. Completely unexpected. And so good. First off, my experience with steampunk is incredibly limited. I think that really, the only “steampunk” I’ve read, and I use those quotation marks intentionally, was Masque of the Red Death by Bethany… Read more »

I love meeting new books and anticipating them, so this meme is constant at The Daily Bookmark. Hello book lovers! How are we all doing on this fine Wednesday? I’m doing splendiforous. Stressed to the max but that’s life, no? See, I’m cross-stitching a little something for Danny’s mom for Mother’s Day and her birthday, which is two days later. I thought I had it all figured out and was going to finish early so I put that project aside in place of other ones. Well, I picked it back… Read more »

(2013) April Recap + May TBR!

If I thought March was a tough month for reading, imagine my surprise when April rolled around and I read less than I have in over a year. Yes, folks, embarrassing, to say the least. I had a lot going on, such as four packed weekends, birthdays and a move but much of my free time was devoted to cross-stitching, etc. I even took a break to get back into reading and that didn’t jump start me. Even more still, I participated in a read-a-thin and STILL didn’t get much reading done. Ugh, I’m worried that my reading bug has drifted off and I miss it. I wish there was enough time in the day that I could read and… Read more »
